SMP is paid for up to 39 weeks: the first 6 weeks at 90% of your average weekly earnings with no cap, then up to 33 further weeks at the lower of £184.03 per week or 90% of your average weekly earnings. SMP is treated as earnings, so tax and National Insurance can still be deducted.
Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)
SSP is £116.75 per week, paid by your employer for up to 28 weeks of sickness absence. Many employers pay more under an occupational sick pay scheme — SSP is the legal minimum for eligible employees.
